After Rite of Passage #1: ES Bushing Kit..... this one seemed like playing paddycake, I think the natural order of progression is supposed to be the other way around but oh well, whatever. So here's my wednesday night (I called my cable company and cancelled TV service since I have too much to do over the next month or so....changing clutch in my old NA, little tinkering with the TT, my "new" pickup needs a thorough scrubbing and maintenance, and I've got a list of home renovations of biblical proportions), figured I'd knock out the caliper-painting job. Wow the rears look pretty nice when they are all clean
A halfway decent heat gun really helps this mini job go alot quicker
Standard noob mess, and yes....a hammer is necessary, for every job, if you are a noob
I did the fronts first. They came out ok, but the rears turned out great. I think if I had it to over again I'd use larger grit sandpaper for the fronts, maybe I'll redo them at a later time.

And now with the wheels back on....and yes, all season tires own....until the new Goodyear F1's arrive for the new wheels. Isnt the fancy schmancy writing on the kumhos cool?

After reading other posts about caliper painting, I decided to go with 3 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear. Only little tip that I didnt read was what grit worked best, maybe it is common sense, but I'm a noob and found out the hard way that finer grit paper wasnt very efficient or effective, I used medium grit (dont have the # handy) and got much better results when sandingthe paint off the letters on the rears. Dunno if it was a dumb idea or not, but I decided to just paint (as you can see) the outer halves of the calipers. This was mainly because I did this at home and do not currently have a compressor or impact gun, and the top mounting bolt on the backside of my passenger side caliper absolutly would not budge at all. I had already removed the other and had hung it in its wheel well, so I decided to put it back on and only do the outer portions and see how they turned out. Plus I figured the only point of the task was for "dress up" and no one is ever going to see the unpainted halves anyway, so why not. It wouldnt be difficult in the future to paint the inner halves once I had access to an impact gun / compressor so I went ahead. Guess I'll see how they hold up with as infrequently as I drive my TT. Now that I completely dominated the caliper job, I am ready to take on a measly clutch/flywheel!! Noob power!
